It is almost undeniable fact that African Americans are among the most artistically inclined people in the world, and therefore they are not surprised that there is such a great variety of African American hair styles - see that 'hairstyle' is first and foremost a work of art. Another possible explanation as to why there are so many African-American hair style has become a fact that there are so many 'sub-culture' in the African American community, with almost each of the sub-culture that has a unique hairstyle for the purposes of identification among their members , and usually with each sub-culture of the hair to be one feature that adds up to 'ownership' in the group members.

While going to the naming and explaining each of the many African-American hair styles will be a big enough task to make a few thousand page thesis, several things can be said in general about African American hair styles.

One is that, as expected, it seems there are more variations such as African-American hairstyles for women who are there for men - even though African-American men is not at all to lose from the 'exceptional' hair style. One of the most remarkable of African American men's hair style (which by and large remained African American hair styles for other hair types simply can not accommodate it) is called the 'Afro' hairstyle that rocked most of the 70's and 80 -an: where hair is allowed to grow tall and thick (but not long enough to fall), then combed thoroughly and (vertical) directly to come up with an incredible view on the part of the wearer that works wonders, especially when worn with a ' underbelly 'trousers age that when the' Afro 'ruling circles African American hair styles. And because the hair fashion trends go in cycles, it is no wonder that the 'Afro' increasingly making a comeback though to be sure, at this time, it is ultra-minded individuals who do not mind the style labeled 'eccentric' which may be seen wearing a 'Afro' day this.

Among the women in the African-American community, braids (and a whole range of braided hair style) is very popular - with some even found acceptance among men in touch with their feminine side. "Black hair, of course, can easily be done in a braid - which is why the look of braided has found little use outside the African American community in the United States.

Closely related to the braid is African-American hair styles are based on established - since the strength of African American hair makes it possible to weave into various shapes. In contrast to braid, though, especially weaving remained popular among women, with only the occasional person who is not afraid to 'stand up' exercise of one or another variety of weaving.

Dreadlocks (and hair styles associated) is another popular African American hair styles, especially among customers of the Rastafarian faith ands sympathizers; a pretty good number of years is almost a majority in the African American community, before hip-hop revolution of recent years which have seen figures even among those who are sympathetic to the cause of Rastafarian and those who prefer a simpler approach to life is symbolized by the hip hop subculture.
